What has been your favorite part of the Pirate Planning program? My favorite part about the program is the connection to alumni and local planners. The planner in residence program is amazing and teaches so many days today planning skills. And the alumni connections are what helped me get my dream internship in Raleigh.
Other stories you want to share with others such as your internship, study abroad, research, community engagement, or other involvements at ECU? The summer before my senior year I worked as a planning intern with Stewart in Raleigh, NC. I was lucky to have worked with an ECU alum as my main supervisor for the program that he and the rest of the Municipal Planning & Mobility team had prepared. The internship was so much more than I could have ever anticipated, and I regularly joked that I never felt like the “typical intern,” as I was pulled into so many projects located all over the state. Every day was different and I was truly able to experience so many different aspects of the planning process whether it was demographic research, plan editing, assisting with public and stakeholder meetings, or collecting GIS data in the field. I have been lucky enough to stay on board as one of Stewart’s planning interns throughout my senior year while in Greenville, and I’ve enjoyed every second of being a part of their planning team.
