Love Ott, a Junior Planning student, minoring in Political Science, received the 2021 S.M. Hankins Scholarship. The S.M. Hankins Scholarship is the oldest in the Community and Regional Planning program. Since 1984, one student pursuing a BS degree in Community and Regional Planning program was awarded annually for their scholarship and an exhibited dedication to the profession of urban and regional planning. Involvements in extracurricular and community activities are also additional eligibility for the award.

As a SPAN member, Love actively involves all SPAN actions, including street cleanups, community garden volunteers, participating in APA-NC Section 5 workshop, table talks, and monthly meetings. She finished an internship with the Town of Hertford in 2019 and has been interning at the Pitt County Planning Department since August 2020.

Love also received the Urban Planning Alumni Scholarship ($2,000) in 2020. Outside the Planning program, she serves for ECU Club Softball as treasurer.

Hometown: Elizabeth City, NC

“After graduation I hope to expand my knowledge of planning and work in community development.  While working I plan on going to graduate school part-time. Outside of planning, I love to volunteer at the SPCA in Greenville and in my hometown of Elizabeth City.  Playing club softball here at ECU has also been a passion of mine.”  (Love Ott’s interview)
