Senior Profile: John Nabers
- Full name: John Mills Nabers (Class of 2021)
- Majors: BS Urban and Regional Planning and Political Science (Double Majors)
- Hometown: Saluda, NC
- Interest in Planning & future goals: My main interest in planning is helping communities become the best they can be, therefore improving residents’ quality of life within said communities. That is what planning is all about, improving people’s lives. I think that everyone eventually learns that service to others is the only action truly worth doing. It was Mahatma Gandhi that said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” My goal is to work for the state or a municipality for several years, then move into private sector planning.
- Favorite thing about the department: My favorite part about the ECU urban & regional planning program is its size. The program is small enough to feel like a family and just big enough to feel like an accredited planning program. It is just big enough to have any resource you would ever need, readily available, and just small enough to make you feel like you’re not just a student identification number. I have grown close to many of my fellow planning students and look forward to meeting with them down the line throughout our career.
