Leila Coe received the Marvin Collins Outstanding Student Award

Leila Coe, Class of 2022, received the 2022 American Planning Association North Carolina chapter’s Marvin Collins Outstanding Student Award. The award recognizes students who have excelled in an accredited NC planning program. The APA-NC Award Committee awarded her during the 2022 Annual Conference in Winston-Salem on September 14, 2022.

Leila states, “I am so honored to have been nominated by the wonderful ECU planning staff and selected by the tremendous NC APA Awards Committee for the 2022 Marvin Collins Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award.”

During her senior year, she served as the Planning faculty meeting liaison and active member of the Student Planners Action Network (SPAN)–a student organization registered with the ECU Student Government Association (SGA) since 1970 and with the American Planning Association (APA). She was also an active member of the Student/Target Liaison, ECU Greenville Talent Retentions, and the Black Student Union.

She completed two internships, one with the NC Office for Historically Underutilized Businesses (2021) and the other with the City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources, NC (2020).

Her capstone projects include “The Path to Greatness: The Stanley White Center Relocation and Placemaking Project” (Planning Studio, Fall 2021) and “Talent Retention and Attraction Analysis, Greenville, NC” (Practicum, Spring 2022). 

Upon graduation, she joined Wake County, NC as a Planner I.
